Luxury vinyl flooring, or LVT flooring, has become more and more popular in residential and commercial settings. Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some inside information about luxury vinyl.

Types of Luxury Vinyl

The top layer, which is referred to as the wear layer, features wear resistant technologies, so it will resist scratches and scuffs without any special treatments. This wear layer protects the decorative layer, which includes a high-definition wood or stone visual. With this decorative layer, luxury vinyl flooring is virtually indistinguishable from real wood and stone. In addition, luxury vinyl flooring has core layers and other support layers that provide the vinyl planks and tiles with premium dimensional stability. Luxury vinyl planks and tiles will never crap or collapse, nor will they ever swell under moist conditions. In fact, many luxury vinyl floors have strong waterproof cores, so they are considered 100% waterproof!

For authentic wood looks, be sure to choose vinyl plank flooring, but for stone and tile looks, vinyl tile flooring is a better option.

What makes Luxury Vinyl Waterproof?

Waterproof luxury vinyl flooring is changing the way homeowners look at their flooring. You can have wood look floors all throughout your home without worrying about humidity or accidental spills causing permanent damage. Waterproof luxury vinyl flooring features a waterproof core that instead of absorbing moisture, allows it to evaporate. This stops moisture from reaching your subfloor and causing underlying damage. These types of floors are allergy friendly and perfect for pet owners.

Where can Waterproof Flooring be Installed?

Luxury vinyl flooring can be installed in areas around your home where you normally would not install tile or hardwood. That means you can have wood look waterproof flooring installed in your kitchen or bathroom. You can even have waterproof tile look flooring installed throughout your home. Other places waterproof flooring can be installed include finished attics and four season rooms.
